Deven Varma


Deven Varma was an acclaimed Bollywood actor who gained much appreciation for his comic roles in several films.Some of his best comedy roles were in films of eminent directors like Basu Chatterjee,Gulzar, Hrishikesh Mukherjee etc.He was also a producer and director.He als
















o acted in TV serials.He  used to act in Bhojpuri and Marathi Films.
Deven Varma was born in Kutch,Gujarat and was brought up at pune, from where he took his degree in Politics and Sociology.
He started his acting career as a stage actor and his debut film was 'Dharam Putra' in the year 1961 which was directed by Yash Chopra.Shashi Kapoor and Mala Sinha were the leading pair in that film.This was Shashi Kapoor's first film as an adult actor.This film received 'Best Feature film in Hindi' award. 
He was well acclaimed for his comedy roles and his performance in films like Chori Mera Kaam,Chor Ke Ghar Chor,Angoor etc received much appreciation.He got Filmfare Best Comedian Awards for Films Chori Mera Kaam,Chor Ke Ghar Chor and Angoor.
He produced films like Yakeen,Nadaan,Besharam Chatpati and Dana Paani.
He directed films Nadaan,Bada Kabutar,Besharam and Dana Paani.
He married Veteran actor Ashok Kumar's daughter Rupa Ganguly.
Chori Mera Kaam was directed by Brij in the year 1976 in which Ashok Kumar,Shashi Kapoor,Zeenat Aman,Pran Iftekher etc acted.Deven Varma's first Filmfare award was for this film.He acted as the character Parveen Chandra Shah who aroused much comedy scenes in this film.
In the film Chor Ke Ghar Chor Ashok Kumar,Randhir Kapoor,Zeenat Aman acted in main roles.
Deven Verma received accolades for his role in the film 'Khatta Meetha' in 1978 which was directed by Basu Chartterjee.Rakesh Roshan,Ashok Kumar,Bindiya Goswami etc acted in it.Deven Verma got a Filmfare nomination  for Best Performance in a Comic role for this film.
'Angoor' was a nice comedy film directed by Gulzar in 1982 and in this film Sanjev Kumar,Deven Varma,Moushumi Chatterjee were in the main roles.Deven Varma received his third Best Comdian actor award for this film.
In his directorial debut film 'Nadaan' of 1971 screenplay was also written by him.Asha Parekh,Navin Nischal,Madan Puri,Asit Sen,Devn Varma,Heln,Nirupa Roy etc were the actors.
Deven Varma directed the film 'Besharam' in 1978 in which Amitabh Bachchan and Sharmila Tagore were in the main leads.Amjad Khan,Dhumal,A.K.Hanghal,Nirupa Roy,Iftekhar etc acted in it.
The theme was about an innocent man who sets out to find the truth about his Father's death and faces several dangers in that effort.
Yakeen was produced by him in 1968 in which Dharmendra and Sharmila Tagore acted in main roles.
He was appreciated for his excellent performance in the film 'Dil To Pagal Hai' which was released in 1997 in which he acted along with Sharukh Khan,Madhuri Dixit,Akshay Kumar,Karishma Kapoor etc.The film was directed
 by Yash Chopra.


Deven Verma was excellent in films like 'Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai,Hulchul,Golmaal,Rang Birangi,Calcutta Mail,Andaz Apna Apna etc'.
Ajay Devgn was the hero of the film Hulchul in which Deven Varma acted as the character Vinod Bhai.
Rajesh Khanna and Shabana Azmi starred in main roles of the hilarious film 'Thodisi Bewafai' in which Deven Varma exalted his acting talents.
In the film 'Andaz Apna Apna' Deven Varma acted as the father of Aamir Khan.
His last Hindi film was Calcutta Mail which was released in the year 2003.
Deven Varma passed away on 2nd December 2014 at Pune.He was 78.

Abbas

Abbas (Old) was a Malayalam film actor during 60's and 70's and he portrayed several well noted roles in hits and super hits of that period.He acted in Villain roles and Police Officer roles also in many films.
In the year 1966 he acted in the super hit film 'Tharavattamma' along with Sathyan,Sheela,B.S.Saroja,Aranmula Ponnamma,Sukumari,G.K.Pillai,P.J.Antony etc.The film was directed by P.Bhaskaran.
In 1969 he portrayed a noted role in the super hit film 'Kannur Deluxe' and acted along with stars like Prem Nazir and Sheela.A.B.Raj was the director of the film.
Olavum Theeravum was a commercial and critical success in the year 1970 in which the main pair were Madhu and Usha Nandini.The film which was a realistic manifestation was a classic movie directed by P.N.Menon which was one of the earliest introduction of art-house  movies on Malayalam screen.Abbas played the role as 'Butcher Moosa' in this film.P.A.Bakkar was the producer of this film.
Vilakku Vangiya Veena was a blockbuster film of 1971 directed by P.Bhaskaran in which Prem Nazir,Madhu,Sharada and Jayabharathi were in the lead roles.The film contained nice songs which are loved even today.
Theertha Yathra was a hit film based on a novel written by V.T.Nandakumar and the film was released in 1972.It was directe
d by A.Vincent.Madhu,Sharada,Kaviyoor Ponnamma and Sudheer acted in main roles.Abbas acted in this film as 'Abdulla'.




Pani Theeratha Veedu' was a blockbuster film released in the year 1973 which was directed by K.S.Sethumadhavan.Prem Nazir and Nanditha Bose were the main pair of this film.It was based on a novel written by 'Parapurathu' and screenplay was also written by him.The film received Kerala Government awards for Best Film,Best Screenplay,Best Direction,and Best Male singer(Jayachandran).It received National award as the Best Feature Film in Malayalam for that year.In this film Abbas acted as the character 'Muthalali'.
Nellu was a blockbuster film of 1974 which was directed by Ramu Kariat.It was the adaptation of the novel by P.Valsala in the same name.Prem Nazir,Jayabharathi,Kanakadurga,Mohan etc were the main actors of this film which told the story of tribal people of Wayanad hills and in the deep forest.

Sunder

Sunder was a Bollywood actor who was active during the period 1950 - 1980 and did protagonist roles in a few  films in the early years of his career and later acted in supporting roles and character roles.He got accolades for his comedy roles which he handled skillfully in many films.He worked in more than 250 films in his acting  career.He also acted in many Punjabi films.He sang songs also in films like Mustana (1954),Upkar and also for some Punjabi films.His association with other comedy actors of those period like Mehboob, I.S.Johar etc  created excellent unforgettable comedy scenes in many films like Padosan,Bombay to Goa etc.
The comedy scenes of films like Mera Naam Joker, Padosan, Seema etc received much accolades.In the film 'Khiladi' (1950) he acted along with Suraiya,Ashok Kumar etc.
In the film 'Seema'(55) which was directed by Amia Chakraborty he acted along with the main actors Balraj Sahni,Nutan etc.
In the hit film 'Aasha' he acted along with actors like Kishore Kumar,Vyjayanthimala,Pran,Omprakash etc.






In the super hit film Phool aur Patthar he acted along with the stars Dharmendra,Meena Kumari,Shashikala,Lalitha Pawar,Jeevan etc and the director was O.P.Ralhan.
In the critically acclaimed Raj Kapoor film 'Mera Naam Joker' he acted along with Raj Kapoor,Padmini,Rajendra Kumar,Simi Garewal etc.

In the film 'Sharabi' he acted with Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Pradha,Pran,Om Prakash,Bharat Bhushan  etc. in 1984 and it was directed by Prakash Mehra.
He died in the year 1992 at Mumbai.

Prem Nath

Prem Nath Malhotra was a popular Bollywood actor who acted in large number of films for a long span of about four decades and appeared in main roles,supporting roles,villain roles and character roles.One of the famous Bollywood heroine Bina Rai was his wife.He started a film production company along with Bina Rai in the name 'P.N.Films'.He was also the director of two well noted films. 
Prem Nath was born on 21st November 1926 at Peshawar and after partition his family moved to Jabalpur,Madhya Pradesh while he shifted to Bombay where he started his career as a film actor.
His debut film was 'Ajit' in 1948 which was one of the earliest color film and he acted opposite Monica in it.In the same year he was given a major role in the directorial debut film of Raj Kapoor 'Aag'.Raj Kapoor cast him in his film 'Barsaat' the next year in 1949 also.
In 1952 Dilip Kumar,Nimmi,Prem Nath and Nadira were the main actors of 'Aan' India's first technicolor film which was produced and directed by Mehboob Khan.It was the highest grosser of that year.
He was the hero of the film 'Badal' in which Madhubala,Purnima,Agha etc acted along with him.
In 1953 Prem Nath and Bina Rai fell in love during the filming of 'Aurat' and they got married.In the film 'Aurat' which was directed by bhagwandas Varma Prem Nath,Bina Rai and Purnima were the main actors.
Prem Nath and Bina Rai paired in films such as 'Shagufa', 'Prisoner of Golconda' , 'Hamara Watan' , and 'Samunder' but none of them became big hits.But many other films in which he acted opposite other heroines were hits and many films were hits and super hits in which he acted in supporting roles, villain roles etc.
In 1953 he acted in the film 'Mehman' in which Nimmi was his pair.

'Prisoner of Golconda' was directed by Prem Nath himself in which he and Bina Rai paired.
'Samunder' was the only film produced by P.N.Productions, and it wasdirected by Prem Nath and acted together with Bina Rai in 1957.
Shakeela was his pair in the film 'Gambler' which was directed by Dwarka Khosle in 1960.
In the film 'Rustom Sohrab' of 1963 he acted in the main title role as 'Sohrab' in whic suraiya was the heroine.Pritviraj Kapoor,Mumtaz,Sajjan etc acted alog with them.
He acted along with Shammi Kapoor,Asha Parekh,Prem Chopra,Helen etc in the super hit film 'Teesri Manzil' produced by Nassir Hussain and directed by Vijay Anand.
In the blockbuster film 'Bobby'(73) he acted as'Jack Braganza'  the father of 'Bobby Braganza'  and the character was  as  a  poor Goan  fisherman.
His character was well appreciated in the film 'Amar Garib' in which he acted along with Dev Anand and Hema Malini.
In the blockbuster film 'Roti Kapda aur Makaan' he acted along with Manoj Kumar,Shashi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan,Zeenat Aman etc.
'Kalicharan' was a hit film in which he acted along with Shatrughan Sinha and Reen Roy which was directed by Subhash Ghai.
In the film 'Desh Premee' he acted along with Amitabh Bachchan, Sharmila Tagore,Hema Malini,Parveen Babi etc.
His last appearance was in the film 'Hum Dono' in the year 1985 and he retired from acting.
Prem Nath passed away in 1992 on 3rd November due to heart attack.
