T.K.BALACHANDRAN





T.K.Balachandran was a famous actor in all the South Indian Languages and produced several films also.He was respected by all film workers and he  served as the Office bearer of several film related organisations such as Malayalam Film Producers Association,Malayala Chalachitra Parishad etc.He was the executive committee member of the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce for 25 years.He was member of National Film Development Corporation.He was President of South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce for the year 1998-99.
T.K.B has translated, dubbed and wrote lyrics for 17 Children's films produced by the Children's film society of India from Hindi to Malayalam.
T.K.Balachandran was born in Trivandrum to parents Kunjan Pillai and Parukkutty Amma on Feb 2, 1928.Due to his intensified interest in the acting field he was consented by his father to take up acting as a profession.Thus in 1940, at the age of 13 he could act in the Malayalam film 'Prahdlada'.It was the initial period of Malayalam film Industry.T.K.B. later joined the prestigious Social Drama troupe of Nawab Rajamanikyam of Tamil Nadu.He was successful to get trained in acting as well as earned name and fame  as an actor there.He joined the Dance troupe of Guru Gopinath and got trained in  dance also.Thus he started his career as an actor in films and acted altogether in  more than 400 films  over a period of five decades  out of which 200 were in Malayalam and other in Tamil,Kannada and Telugu.
He was very much liked in the role as 'Sage Narada'  by the audience and so in all the South Indian languages he donned that role in several films.


T.K.Balachandran produced 18 films in Malayalam.He wrote story for 8 films and wrote screenplay and dialogues for 16 films.
Some of the films produced by him includes " Prasadam, Deeparadhana,Raktha sakshi,Kattu Kallan,Sakhakkale Munnottu,T.P.Balagopalan M.A.,Pralayam" etc.
He produced films under the banner 'Teakebees'.
He was the first actor in Malayalam to act in double role and it was for the film 'Poothali' in 1960.Thikkurissi Sukumaran Nair,Kottarakkara Sreedharan Nair,S.P.Pillai,Bahadur,Miss Kumari,Aranmula Ponnamma etc acted in it and 
it was produced by Neela Productions.He acted as hero and Villain in it and the dual role was very much liked by the audience.The film was a big hit at the box Office.It was dubbed to Tamil as 'Manamagan'.
For the contributions to Indian Cinema he was honoured by a Gold Medal by the President of India.Travancore Devaswom Board awarded a Gold Medal and presented the title 'Kalarathna.'In 1996 Kerala Government honoured him for his contributions and services for the growth of Malayalam Cinema.
T.K.B. was a resident of Chennai for most of his life but during his last period he was staying at Trivandrum.On 15 Dec 2005, at the age of 78 T.K.B. left this world.
