KOTTARAKKARA SREEDHARAN NAIR

Kottarakkara Sreedharan Nair popularly known as Kottarakkara had earned name and fame as a well talented stage actor before joining films at the age of 28 in  1950.
He belonged to Kottarakkara of Kollam district in Kerala. He acted as hero for many years in the initial state of his career in cinema and later changed to villain roles and character roles.
Kottarakkara Sreedharan Nair possessed immaculate acting talents and had impressive masculine voice.Whatever be the roles he could present them with suitable gestures and movements. He acted majestically fantastic when presented historic hero 'Veluthampi Dalawa'(1962) in the title role itself.Like that he presented exceptionally well the title role as 'Pazhassi Raja'(1964).He received good comments for the films 'Thommante Makkal' in which he handled the role as 'Thomman'.
He was equally important as the hero in the film 'Chemmeen' directed by Ramu Kariat which received National award as the best film of that year.It was a film in which Sathyan,Madhu and Kottarakkara acted extremely good as if real. The character 'Chempan Kunju' who loved money only and ultimately loses everything was presented nicely by him
In several films he handled villain roles and 'Cochin Express' is an example of his acting talent in villain roles. The clean shaved head and cruel looks were enough to get the applause from the audience
He got best actor award from Kerala Government for presenting the character as 'Kujenachan'- an old man in the film 'Ara Nazhika Neram' which was directed by K.S.Sethu Madhavan in the year 1970.It was  a film made from the novel written by "Parappurathu' in the same name.
In 1974 he acted in the main role as an old temple priest in the film 'Prayanam'who marries an young lady.Lakshmi acted as his wife.It was a wonderful screen play written by eminent Padmarajan and it was his entry in to Malayalam cinema.Like Padmarajan that film was debut film  of director Bharathan.Kottarakkara's role demanded much acting skills but he acted quite nicely. The priest was adorning the deity of Goddess with sandalwood paste and suddenly he felt as if he was beautifying his wife.He could come back to the real sense minutes later and  he felt guilty and sweated profusely. He came out of the sanctum to cool himself. Such scenes without dialogues were impressively taken by the genius director Bharathan who left us untimely. It is  a great loss to Malayalam cinema by the departure of  the finest  architects Padmarajan and Bharathan. The film 'Prayanam'  got
National award as best regional film  of that year.He acted in the first 3D film "My dear Kuttichathan' also.
Kottarakkara Sreedharan Nair died in the year 1986.His son Sai Kumar is an established actor of Malayalam cinema.Kottarakkara's daughter Sobha Mohan,Son in law Mohan Kumar,Grand children Anil pappen,Vinu Mohan, etc are cinema/T.V actors.
