SANJEEV KUMAR

Sanjeev Kumar was a great actor in Bollywood with unparalleled acting skills of par excellence. He had exceptional capabilities of voice control which was effectively used to glorify his characters.Modulated voice control,an expressive face which could reflect all the nine emotions brilliantly, natural gestures and movements adequate to the concerned situations was all widely appreciated. He was not generally called for acting simple roles like dancing with the heroines and chasing them around trees singing romantic love songs. He was sought for presenting characters which needed much efforts for creation. He also loved to act in films which his role demanded much acting skills and took them as a challenge. He was able to play many characters with subtlety and with indefinable quality to the amazement of movie goers.
Sanjeev Kumar's real name was Harihar Jariwala  and was born in Bombay on 9th July 1938 in a traditional Gujarati Family. The family hailed from Surat and was settled in Bombay. After undergoing a diploma course at Filmalaya acting school he started acting in films. Before that  he had an appearance in the film 'Alibaba and 40 thieves'.
He had a small role in 'Hum Hindusthani' and afterwards got leading roles in many films. As an actor he was well praised for the film 'Sunghursh(68) from which his acting career got a boost.Seeta Aur Geetha and Manchali also received much praise.'Khilona'
was a film which earned him much applause as  an efficient actor. The movie had melodious songs and the  presence of actress Mumtaz  in it was nice.  The miserable sorrows of his character in Khilona earned pity..Then followed another fine appearance in the film 'Parichay' in which he carved his character brilliantly appropriate. .Parichay(72) and Koshish(72) enhanced  his fame as a wonderful acting talent. In the film 'Koshish' as a deaf and dumb man he presented marvelous acting.Jaya Bhaduri on the counter part  had also acted tremendously well.To convey all the grief and grievances the mute characters could employ only gestures and expressions. It  was really a challenge and in several scenes the audience were moved with sorrow of those characters.
An actor should have the ability to observe the society in a perceptive manner to grab the mannerism of different people in varied situations. Then only they can enact in diversified roles and sequences effectively. The spectators in cinema halls are aware that what is happening on the screen is unreal. But the actor utilizing his talents when present the characters with natural emotions, gestures and movements the viewer gets a real feeling.Sanjeev Kumar was blessed with these kind of abilities. To induce such an effect and impact several factors are needed such as appealing story and screenplay, selection of beautiful locations, better scenic arrangements and an ideal director. All these factors were given prominence  by 'Gulzar' and Sanjeev Kumar's association with Gulzar proved to be a boon for film lovers.
'Gulzar' is a wonderful writer, lyricist and director who created fantastic movies which were all admired by the society.Gulzar under his direction and creativity made nine films with Sanjeev Kumar in the lead roles. As a writer Gulzar excelled very well and direction wise also his films were well presented in all factors such as
story, dialogues, songs, location and finally  he included actors and actresses most suited to the characters.Sanjeev Kumar could vivify the characters as per the expectation of writer-director 'Gulzar' and so films like 'Mausam(75),Aandhi(75),Angoor(81),Namkeen(82) etc are all super creations in every respect.
Sanjeev Kumar took the challenge to take nine different roles in one  film 'Naya Din Naya Raat(74) and presented nicely. This film was the remake of Tamil Film 'Nava Rathiri' in which Sivaji Ganesan handled all those roles successfully well.
In the eighties Vidhata(82) and Hero(83) were two films which got appreciation. He had the chance to act in Sathyajit Ray's film 'Shatraj ke Khiladi'(77) and in a Punjabi film 'Fauji Chacha'.(80)
Sanjeev Kumar did not hesitate to accept older characters and side roles also.As an artist he longed for characters with succulent essence for enabling him to utilize his acting ability. So it was not difficult for him to act as Jaya Bhaduri's lover in Koshish and Anamika and her father's role in 'Parichay'.He was Jaya Bhaduri's father in law in 'Sholay'.He acted perfectly well in  older roles in 'Aandhi' Mausam.Trisul etc.He superseded his co-stars in multi-starred films
with regard to performance.
His conspicuous appearance as Dwaraka N Prasad in 'Sunghursh',humble husband in 'Aandhi' Business man in 'Trisul' Swamy Rahasyanand in 'Naya Din Naya Raat' Thakur Baldev Singh in 'Sholay' Deaf and dumb man
in 'Koshish' The poor Vijay in 'Khilona' Gerulal, the truck driver in 'Numkeen' etc etc were all diversified roles which ignited his acting prowess.
Shikkar,Khilona,Koshish,Aandhi,Sholay,Mausam,Arjun Pandit,Zindagi,Pati Patni aur Woh,Devta,Trisul,Angoor,Vidhata are some of his very best films.
We have to appreciate the very nicely talented heroines who acted with him to make those films a treat for the eyes and mind.Vaijayanthimala,Malasinha,Waheeda Rehman,Sharmila Tagore,Shabana Aazmi,Rakhee,Mausami Chatterjee,Jaya Bhaduri,Smitha Patil etc deserves much admiration.
He got National Film award for Best Actor twice and Film fare award for Best actor thrice.
Sanjeev Kumar left this world on 6th November 1985 at the age of 47 because of heart disease He was a bachelor. Some of his films were released after his death. He was such an acting talent of sublimity that no film goers will ever forget him.

RAJ KAPOOR

Raj Kapoor is remembered, respected and loved as one of the greatest actor,Director, showman and film maker of India.Thank god that for generations the Kapoor family is blessed with  talented personalities with excellent capabilities to perform  acting, and directing films and being victorious. They have the appealing capabilities to entertain the millions of people across India and abroad alike.Raj Kapoor's skills were inborn as he was the son of great Prithviraj Kapoor.Raj Kapoor was an artist from head to toes and was born in this world  for acting fantastically well and to create marvelous movies. That intellectual person was well versed in all aspects of film making and involved in editing and supervised composing the songs of his films.
He was a musician himself and so was very particular to generate stunning melodious songs for his films.Songs in Aawara,Barsaat,Mera Naam Joker Jis Desh Mem Ganga Behti Hai' was a highly appreciated film which had a positive message to the society. His films Aag and Shree 420 also stimulated patriotism. As the song in Shree 420,the shoes might of Japan and the trousers made in England but he kept his heart truly Indian always.Raj Kapoor but as a film producer felt that this media must be mainly for entertainment purpose and gave emphasis to that.Hence in 1954 itself he made his movie 'Sangam' in locations such as London,Paris Switzerland etc. Moreover to accomplish the splendid beauty of the European cities the film was made in color.Vyjayanthimala was his pair in that movie.Raj Kapoor was very particular that the common man who spends two and a half hours in the cinema theater should feel the cinema as a feast to the eyes and mind and should enjoy it thoroughly. He knew very well the interest of the masses and so carefully chose the story, the locations, the artists, playback singers, music composers and so on.The final result would be a fantastic movie.

etc are all evergreen songs and still on top of the music charts. As an actor, director and producer he proved himself immaculate and distinguished. He was a great patriotic man also.'
Raj Kapoor made his first film 'Aag' when he was 24years old in 1948.Before that he had acted in eight films
His entry in to the film field was as a child artist for the film Inquilab in 1935 at the age of eleven. From his own very first film 'Aag' the audience understood the capabilities of that young man and appreciation was poured in plenty.Nargis was intoduced to film field by that movie.Technically also the film was perfectly made which received good comments from film critics.'Barsaat' was his second film by which beautiful charming ' Nargis' the heroine was widely accepted as his success pair. The spectacular visualization, romantic scenes and stunning music seduced the masses. The song sequences were created romantically well and so today also the new generation loves to hear  those songs and enjoy viewing those scenes. In 1952 'Awaara' was released. The songs sung by Mukesh worked wonders and are super hits still now. Many of Raj Kapoor's songs were sung by Mukesh and his voice suited to him well.Raj Kapoor was extremely nice in that movie which received much applause from the audience.
Since Raj Kapoor was a genuine artist he was daring to go to any extremes  if he could create movies of excellence and perfection. So he made 'Mera Naam Joker' which was a movie wonder. But the film which extended for 4hours and 15minutes created some problems since show times had to be adjusted. The viewers also felt inconveniences and hence it was a flop. But when re-released later it was a success. The film was different than the usual commercial themes since the story conception was about the life and sorrows of a circus clown. The joker is tempted to make others laugh even if  his inner soul is weeping. Not only for a circus clown but many of us are wearing a mask  to show our smiling face to the society while hiding and suppressing our sorrows. The circus clown in Mera Nam Joker received much sympathy and love from the viewers. There were three heroines in that film and one of them was a Russian artist. For filming 'Mera Naam Joker' Raj Kapoor brought a Russian circus to India. It took six years to complete that film. The His determination and dedication to get better results for his films were highly appreciated.
In 1973 he made 'Bobby' which was a super duper hit in which his son 'Rishi Kapoor' was the hero.'Dimple Kapadia' was the heroine of that film which was a nice entertaining movie with beautiful songs ,dance, romance and melodrama. The youth of that time loved the teen age love story and celebrated that film for a grand success.Rishi Kapoor with flexible dance movements and young gorgeous  Dimple Kapadia were accepted by the film world by that movie.
Scene from 'Barsaat'
Again 'Satyam Sivam Sundaram' was a beautifully visualized film like a painting on a canvas which  was released in 1978.Even though the film had much scope to show sex and nudity Raj Kapoor filmed it fantastically well expressing his artistic talents and magical touch. The beautiful feminine body is pictured without vulgarity Some frames are amazingly beautiful in that movie. That is the case with 'Ram Teri Ganga Meili also.If directed by somebody else scenes which might had been vulgar was artistically and neatly captured by him.  Raj Kapoor created the film with the magic wand which he possessed and resulted in a very nice movie. The frames were magnificently shot with spectacular picturesque. His younger son was the hero and 'Mandakini' the heroine.
In 1982 another film 'Prem Rog' was released which dealt with tradition, modernization, widow marriage etc.Padmini Kohlapuri was the heroine of that film.
Raj Kapoor was an idealistic man.His mannerism and way of acting was accepted and loved by the viewers.
He excelled very well in romantic scenes and was triumphant to convince the scenes as if real.He acted and created films for the common man.He was successful in providing what they needed.
He got 'Dada Saheb Phalke Award' in 1987.He was awarded Padma Bhushan 1i 1971
He died in New Delhi on 2nd June1988.

Lalitha,Padmini and Ragini were three beautiful children of Thankappan Pillai and Saraswathi Amma of Poojappura in Trivandrum city.Padmini was born on June 12th in the year 1932..The children were trained in Indian Style of classical dance from childhood and they were extremely talented in that artform.Bharatnatyam,Mohiniyattam,Kuchippudi etc was taught to them by Guru Ramaiyyah Pillai and " Kerala Nadanam Dance' by Guru Gopinath. The three sisters conducted stage shows together and became very popular soon and earned the title 'Travancore Sisters'.  (At that time Kerala state was not formed yet.).After seeing Padmini's charismatic dance performance on stage, famous dancer Uday Shankar made her heroine of the Hindi film 'Kalpana' in the year 1948.The film Kalpana garnered her much praise and appreciation.
.Her entry in to Tamil movies was in the year 1950 with the film 'Manamagal' of Sri. N.S.Krishnan and very soon she started acting in  Telugu Kannada and Malayalam films also.

Bharatanatyam is originated from Tamil Nadu,Mohiniyattam from Kerala and Kuchippudi is the dance form of Andhra Pradesh.Only talented people can get trained in these art forms and it needs years of training and practice.Vibrant expressions,Swift movements, flexible body postures, precise gestures to the tune of appealing melodious music was accepted widely and the audience was thrilled to watch their dances.
The sisters helped a lot to popularize the classical dance varieties through out India and abroad.Since the audience liked their performance dance sequence was included in all of their films. They greatly helped to shape the Indian Cinema as we see today with contemporary dance sequences, melodious songs etc which seduced the masses.Talented actresses Vaijayanthimala,Hemamalini,Sreedevi etc helped a lot to keep on that track.
In all languages both Ragini and Padmini used to give their own voice to their characters.Dubbing in own voice is necessary to gain self identity.Even though their voice was husky they were intellectual to build their own identity.More over they were very keen to act only one film at a time for creating perfection.Padmini had the habit of reading screen play before accepting the role.
Since the sisters were fantastic dancers they could show all the expressions well on their face. The charming appearance of the sisters and their superb dances seduced the masses.Padmini was lucky enough to act in more than 400 movies in Malayalam,Tamil Telugu,Kannada  and Hindi.Ragini had also acted in Malayalam,Tamil and Hindi films but the number of films were less.
